Open up the discussion of how we treat others with:

Franklin’s Secret Club – This story is about excluding friends from secret clubs and how the Franklin gang learns to play together.

The characters in this story took on a variety of roles in the ‘club making’ some wanted to exclude some were quiet bystanders who wouldn’t stick up for each other.  And others were left feeling sad and lonely.  As a class we discussed how the characters interacted.  Who did they think was the instigator, who did they think should have stood up to his friends? Students then wrote a letter from one character perspective to another character explaining how they feel and what they would like to do to solve the problem.
