Franklin the Turtle Toilet  Paper Roll Craft

This is a fun art activity, that is easy to do and fosters caring for the environment through recycling.

Materials:
1. toilet paper rolls (one for each student)

2. Turtle template which can be downloaded and printed (one for each student).  The download can be done in black and white or in colored format. http://www.dltk-kids.com/t/books/bfranklin.htm
3. felt pens, crayons or pencil crayons
4. Glue stick

What to do:
1. Download template and make one for each child.
2. Have the children color and cut out the shapes.
3. Glue the rectangular shape to wrap the toilet paper roll.
4. Glue on remaining parts.
Let the children explore!

My students came up with some very interesting versions of Franklin.  Some even put his bowtie upside-down and around the head, instantly turning Franklin into a female character.
